Promote an International Focus

  • Established an Ad Hoc special committee focused on international collaborations with an eye on developing local government leadership for the future
  • Established enhanced partnerships with National Academy Public Administrators(NAPA) Consortium of International Management Policy and Development (CIMPAD),  South African Local Government Association (SALGA), and African Public Administrators Association ( AAPAM)
  • Sent a delegation to take part in the UCLG World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders in Durban, South Africa at the request of our local partner, SALGA
      • NFBPA’s role is to offer advice and perspective on how we can address critical issues faced on both sides of the Atlantic
      • Strengthen the relationship with NFBPA and other international partners in Africa and the Caribbean countries
  • Created successfully a MOU with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA)
  • Work with the African Working Group of NAPA and NFBPA's International Committee to connect and exchange ideas in meeting Grand Challenges presented by NAPA.
  • Approved successfully a MOU with the Consortium of International Management Policy and Development (CIMPAD)
  • Participated in a partnership with the Goldman School of Public Policy of the University of California, Berkley and SALGA to achieve the following:
    • To provide unique learning opportunity for 20 South African municipal leaders on Public Policy and Management, Smart and Connected Cities as well as to expose them to the rapidly changing municipal governance 
    • landscape
    • Continue to assist with the placement of Mandela Fellows in cities where NFBPA members have leadership positions
    • Participated in AAPAM International Workshop on Technology.

Report Card Status:  

  • Establish an Ad hoc special committee focused on International collaborations with a focus on developing local government leadership for the future.  (Achieved)
  • To establish and bring in partners like CIMPAD and NAPA to the table and partner with their international priorities.  The goal is to create these partnerships via a MOU during the 2-year term.  (Achieved)
